    Durante los últimos años, se ha producido un marcado declive del gorrión común Passer domesticus en el Reino Unido y en otros países del oeste europeo. Este declive parece haberse producido también, aunque no de manera tan acusada, en las poblaciones ibéricas, de acuerdo con los seguimientos realizados por la Sociedad Española de Ornitología (SEO-BirdLife). En Asturias existen escasas referencias previas que nos permitan conocer el estado de las poblaciones de gorrión común. En 2016, y con ocasión de haber sido declarada especie del año por SEO-BirdLife, se organiza en Asturias un censo de la especie, abierto a la participación de voluntarios. El ánimo de este artículo es presentar los resultados de este censo, y compararlos con las referencias anteriores. Se ofrece también una estima de la población presente en el territorio, esperando que el presente censo sirva también como herramienta para seguir su evolución en el futuro.

    Over the last few years, there has been a marked decline in the numbers of House sparrow (passer domesticus) in the UK and other West European countries.

    This decline seems to be apparent in the Iberian populations also, according to the Spanish Ornithological Society (SEO-BirdLife) surveys, although not as dramatically. In Asturias there are very few previous references that give us an idea of its status. In 2016, in which the House Sparrow was nominated as the SEO- Birdlife bird of the year, a census was opened to all volunteers to participate. The aim ofthis article is to present the results of this census and compare them with previous statistics. An estimate of the population in the area is given too, with the hope that it can be used as a tool for comparing their evolution in the future.
