This article reflects on the existing relationships between graphic design and collage, highlighting affinities and differences in terms of methodology, work processes and function. It looks at a series of designers who have used collage in their professional work but also in their non-commissioned artistic work. It also highlights distances and encounters between art and collage, the latter often treated as a subaltern of the first, called ‘higher art’ , as well as the eternal debate between art and design, a dichotomy in which artists-designers are immersed, especially in Spain
