    El presente estudio tiene cinco objetivos específicos: explicitar cuál era la función originaria del Senado dentro del engranaje político-institucional, determinar qué efectos tuvo ello en la configuración del procedimiento mediante el cual se nombraban los senadores, analizar las propuestas de cambio que se han planteado sobre el mismo a lo largo de la historia, describir cuáles han sido las reformas llevadas a cabo por el Ejecutivo de Justin Trudeau entre 2014-2016 y detallar qué efectos han comportado éstas tanto sobre la función que debe cumplir el Senado como sobre la percepción que ostenta la ciudadanía de dicho órgano federal.

    Our research has five specific objectives: to explain what the original function of the Senate was within the political-institutional gear, to determine what effects it had on the configuration of the procedure by which the senators were appointed, to analyze what proposals for change have been raised on the throughout history, describe what the reforms have been carried out by the Executive of Justin Trudeau between 2014-2016 and detail what effects they have had both on the role that the Senate must fulfill and on the perception that the citizenship of said federal body.
