The article covers several stages and aspects of the work that the Milanese librarians do every day towards the detained population to create opportunities for permeability between inside and outside that help to overcome walls and prejudices. Written by several hands at the instigation of Brazilian colleague Edilenice Passos, this paper contains an introduction to the reality of Milanese prisons, a focus on the experience in San Vittore and concludes with the narration of a project that sees communication and exchange of reading groups inside and outside these places of detention. It also contains the synthesis of a model tested in San Vittore through which – thanks to a convention that builds a network of alliances between different subjects who operate in prison – put to system resources and skills oriented to build a library service adapted to the needs of prisoners.
