Resumen de Hospitality master’s program competencies: the case of the russian hotel industry

  • This article examines what kind of competencies Russian hotel industry employers expect from hospitality master’s program graduates and compares them to current Russian academic standards. The main data collection methods included content analysis of professional and educational standards and semistructured interviews with hotel industry experts. The results of the study revealed that the competencies of master’s program graduates were generally determined by state educational standards. However, there was a discrepancy between the educational standards and new professional standards applied in the hotel industry. Therefore, the need to monitor and match educational outcomes with industry requirements appears to be 1 of the main developmental problems in the Russian hotel sphere. This knowledge will improve understanding of the complexities of the Russian hotel industry, which in turn will help Russian universities meet the hotel industry’s needs.
