Resumen de The right stuff - genome wise

Hal Hodson

  • Uppermost in the minds of the Inspiration Mars team over the next five years will be spacecraft engineering, but genetics may play an important role in the success of the mission too. Personalized medicine is still a niche area on Earth but it could be particularly useful in space, where the normal doctor-patient model of medicine breaks down. So says Graham Scott, a geneticist at the Center for Space Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, who is collaborating with the Inspiration team. The idea is to predict which medicines the crew are most likely to need--and pack them--as well as to ensure the crew only take treatments that are likely to work. The capsule could even be personalized to suit genomes.
