Resumen de Precisazioni sulla commitenza di Jacopo Aldobrandini, nunzio apostolico a Napoli (1592-1605)

Vicenzo Sorrentino

  • The paper focuses on the long Neapolitan office of Jacopo Alobrandini, a Fiorentine prelate appointed apostolic nuncio to Naples in 1592. His collection of letters, preserved in the State Archive in Florence, has made it possible to retrace his relations with the cardinals Aldobrandini, the ducchess of Bisignano and cardinal Baronio. Than he was mainly interested in the commission for San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, the Florentine "natione" church in Naples. Thanks to the great deal of effort he put into it together with the consuls who succeeded each other in those years, the church was decorated with a gilt ceiling and with the Aldobrandini coat of arms, including paintings by Florentine painters and much more besides. Finally, the restoration of the Aldobrandini family chapel in the Florentine church of San Lorenzo, whose altarpiece was commissioned to Jacopo da Empoli probably by Jacopo Soldani, nephew of Aldobrandini and poet, very close to Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger.
