“Photonics Explorer Kit”, una nueva herramienta para la enseñanza experimental básica de la fotónica

    La Unión Europea estableció la fotónica como una de las 5 tecnologías facilitadoras clave (Key Enabling Technologies, KET). En este año 2015, declarado por las Naciones Unidas como Año Internacional de la Luz, debemos incrementar su divulgación en los centros educativos. Dentro de este esfuerzo, debemos incluir el de introducir a los jóvenes, especialmente del sexo femenino, en el mundo científicotecnológico. El objetivo de este artículo de revisión es describir el estado del arte del "Photonics explorer kit" (PEK) así como sentar las bases para la búsqueda de distintos caminos que lleven al desarrollo de sus potencialidades. Más allá de la educación secundaria, para lo que fue diseñado originalmente, ampliaremos su campo de acción a la Universidad. Se realizó una búsqueda de diversas bases de datos para describir lo ya hecho, su desarrollo y aplicaciones; así como composición y posibles kits alternativos. Existe poca información publicada, casi nula si buscamos en castellano y aplicada al sistema educativo español. Encontramos varios kits similares. Como ya en el proyecto piloto PEK se añadieron nuevos desarrollos basados en sugerencias de profesores y alumnos; buscamos poder desarrollarlo aún más, y expandirlo a otros ámbitos educativos.

    Photonics has been named as one of the five Key Enabling Technologies (KET) by the European Union. The United Nations (UN) proclaimed 2015, as well, as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015). Therefore, big efforts should be done in order to spread this important knowledge in European High Schools and beyond. In addition, we must encourage more young people to pursue scientific careers, so does female students. The present review article is aimed at describing the state of the art concerning the "Photonics explorer kit " , this way we will be able to develop it even more. For instance, developing the PKE in order to use them at University. A search was made of several databases, looking for the previous work, development and ways of using it with the students. We have been looking for similar kits and their components. Little information was found in the current literature. When it comes to Spanish articles aimed to Spanish Education System in Spanish language, there is not too much at all. Nevertheless, this IYL 2015 we have found similar kits. Many innovations were included after field tests in Germany and Belgium with real High Schools, thus we will try to improve the PEK even more, even fitting it into the University.
