    Los corresponsales enviados por los periódicos chilenos fueron el nexo entre los acontecimientos de la Guerra del Pacífico y la población lectora de sus crónicas. Gran parte de la discusión de la opinión pública chilena respecto del devenir del conflicto, se basó en la información consignada en sus escritos, pues allí encontró los detalles de la campaña descritos desde la perspectiva de la prensa. La pluma de los reporteros creó nuevos héroes para el panteón republicano y ayudó a establecer arquetipos de peruanos y bolivianos. Además, permitió a sus lectores adentrarse en la cotidianidad e intimidad del conflicto.

    The correspondents sent by the Chilean newspapers were the nexus between the events of the War of the Pacific and the reading population of its chronicles. Much of the chilean public's discussion of the conflict was based on the information contained in his writings, because he found the details of the campaign described from the perspective of the press. The pen of the reporters created new heroes for the republican pantheon and helped to establish archetypes of Peruvians and Bolivians. In addition it allowed its readers to enter into the daily life and intimacy of the conflict.
