    La figura de José Nicolás de Escalera y Domínguez, es referente obligado en las artes plásticas cubanas, cuando de pechina se habla, a lo que une el mérito de haber sido el primer pintor cubano en llevar a la pintura la imagen de un negro a principios del siglo XIX. El trabajo pretende rectificar algunos errores de análisis cometidos en torno a esta figura, que aparecen en diferentes publicaciones cubanas, lo que curiosamente ha ocurrido de igual modo, con la Parroquia en que se exhiben las cuatro pechinas, joyas de las artes plásticas cubanas.

    José Nicolás's figure of Escalera and Domínguez, is referent obligor in plastic arts Cubans, when of pilgrim's shell talks to each other, to what the merit of having been the first painter joins Cuban in taking the image of a black to the painting, at the beginning of the XIXth century. The work is intended to rectify some errors of analysis committed in connection with this figure, that Cubans, what curiously has happened likewise, with the Parish Church in which the Cubans exhibit the four pilgrim's shells, jewels of plastic arts themselves appear in different publications.
