Resumen de Fortaleciendo la confianza ciudadana en la policía: ¿más resultados o trato justo?

  En este artículo analizamos los factores que determinan la confi anza pública en la policía en el estado de Nuevo León, identifi - cando si infl uye más que los ciudadanos perciban que la policía es sufi ciente para enfrentar y prevenir el crimen —efectividad policial—, o bien, si los ciudadanos valoran más el trato justo y respetuoso —justicia policial—. Utilizando un modelo logístico, encontramos que la efectividad policial es ligeramente más infl uyente que la justicia policial en la generación de confi anza pública en la policía. Es decir, los ciudadanos valoran más una policía con presencia visible y sufi ciente, pero un buen trato también es valorado, ambos contribuyen para lograr la cooperación y generar el sentido de seguridad entre los ciudadanos.

  In this article, we analyze the factors that shape public confi dence in the police in the state of Nuevo Leon, identifying whether the citizens’ perception that the police are enough to prevent and fi ght crime —police effectiveness— is more infl uential than the value that citizens give to a fair and respectful treatment —police fairness—. The results of a logistic model show that police effectiveness is slightly more influen-tial than police fairness in the generation of public confidence in the police. Thus, citizens value a police with a visible and suffi cient presence more than a fair treatment, but the latter is also well valued. Both aspects contribute to making citizens feel reassured and cooperate with the police.
