    Resumen: El trabajo propone un ejercicio de investigación histórica que utiliza como fuente principal de apoyo la fotografía, un recurso aún poco explotado que merece ser aprovechado amplia pero cuidadosamente por el investigador de cualquier disciplina social. El texto tiene como objetivo fundamental buscar elementos de comprensión de la ciudad porfiriana, desde el caso de Aguascalientes, leyendo la fuente fotográfica con presupuestos teóricos y metodológicos que la entienden como reflejo de juicios y sentimientos de quien la toma, al tiempo que muestra objetos materiales y situaciones que dan testimonio de una determinada realidad histórica. Así, presentamos datos y nuevas perspectivas particulares de la fisonomía urbana y de sus cambios, pero sobre todo, en un nivel de interpretación mayor, entendemos con más precisión los proyectos urbanos de la élite local, los cuales se conjugaban con sus aspiraciones de clase y con sus anhelos de representación y predominio que les otorgaba la fotografía.

    Abstract: The article proposes an exercise of historical research in which the main auxiliary source is photography, a little-used resource that warrants being broadly yet carefully used by researchers in any social discipline. The aim of the text is to seek elements to understand the Porfirian city, using the case of Aguascalientes, by interpreting photographic sources with theoretical and methodological suppositions that regard it as a reflection of the judgments and feelings of the person taking the photograph at the same time as they show material objects and situations that reflect a specific historical reality. Thus, the author presents data and specific new perspectives on the urban physiognomy and its changes but above all, at a higher level of interpretation, which enables one to understand more precisely the urban projects of the local elite, which combined with their class aspirations and the desire for representation and predominance provided by photography.
