The presence of birds in a city leads to them showing certain adaptations, so that these urban populations display differential features. A monitoring during breeding season in the city of Girona allowed observing that these communities included a much larger number of individuals than those found in the nearby non-urban areas. However, the groups in the cities also showed lower diversity of species; less than a half of them being able to make the necessary adaptations to inhabit urban environments. Relative to those adaptations, and taking the greenfinch (Chloris chloris ) as a concrete case, its skill to alter the hours of higher activity depending on the environmental noise, with the objective of keeping the intraspecific communication, could be observed.

La presència d’ocells en una ciutat comporta una sèrie d’adaptacions per part d’aquests i acaba suposant l’establiment de poblacions amb trets diferencials. Mitjançant un seguiment en època de reproducció a la ciutat de Girona s’ha observat que aquestes comunitats estan formades per molts més individus que les de zones no urbanes properes, però presenten menor diversitat d’espècies, ja que menys de la meitat semblen capaces d’efectuar les adaptacions necessàries per habitar en un entorn urbà. Pel que fa a aquestes adaptacions, prenent com a cas concret el verdum (Chloris chloris), s’ha observat que és capaç de canviar les seves hores de més activitat segons el soroll ambiental, per tal de poder mantenir la comunicació intraespecífica.
