Tragic heroes in Kateb Yacine's work live a double passion: desire for Nedjma, woman and figure of the nation, desire for revenge from the colonists. If the characters exist socially and historically, nonetheless they have no control over their destinies: fatality defines these, while death and life become interchangeable for them within the revolutionary logic.
