  Estudio sobre la aportación pobladora española y mexicana en Filipinas entre los siglos XVI y XIX. Los testimonios muestran reite-radamente las dificultades que entrañaba enviar pobladores a una región tan lejana y con grandes problemas de adaptación; como ob-servaron las autoridades de Manila, a los pocos que iban les costaba mucho desarrollar sus familias y linajes. Por otra parte, para estimu-lar el poblamiento se permitió a los vecinos de Manila comerciar con Nueva España productos asiáticos con enormes ganancias, pero la Corona limitó la inversión en esta línea comercial para no perjudicar al comercio atlántico americano. Una paradoja, porque el éxito del estímulo para el poblamiento español y mexicano de Manila inevita-blemente provocaría la reducción del beneficio y del sistema mismo.

  Study about the Spanish and Mexican contribution to population in the Philippines between the 16th and 19th centuries. Extant accounts repeatedly indicate the difficulties involved in sending settlers to a region so far away, where they experienced great difficulties in adap-ting; as the Manila authorities observed, the few who went there had a hard time developing their families and lineages. On the other hand, to stimulate settlement, Manila residents were allowed to trade Asian products with New Spain, making enormous profits as a result, but the Crown limited investment in this commercial avenue so as not to harm the American Atlantic trade. A paradox, because the success of the stimulus for the Spanish and Mexican settlement of Manila would inevitably cause the reduction of the benefit and of the system itself.
