    A partir del análisis de la colección de arte de Luis Cousiño, este artículo se acerca al fenómeno del coleccionismo de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX en Chile y su relación con el arte de la época. En este marco, se entregan luces sobre el rol del coleccionismo en el fomento del arte local, en un contexto cultural fuertemente eurocéntrico, y, a través de diversas fuentes, se intenta esclarecer la influencia de la colección estudiada en el ámbito artístico y cultural de la época. De este modo, la colección estudiada permite un acercamiento al mundo del coleccionismo decimonónico chileno, develando tensiones con el arte local, pero también un importante rol educador tanto para la sociedad como los artistas de la época

    Drawing upon the art collection of Luis Cousiño, this article approaches the phenomenon of art collecting in the second half of the 19th century in Chile and its relationship with the art development of the time. In this framework, lights are given on the role of collecting in the promotion of local art, in a strong Eurocentric cultural context, and, through the analysis of various sources, an attempt is made to clarify the influence ofthe collection in the artistic and cultural field ofthe time. In this way,the Cousiño collection allows an approach to the nineteenth-century Chilean collecting world, uncovering tensions with local art, but also an important educating role for both society and artists.
