The Arroyofrio Bed is a classic and largely studied ironstone unit of the Iberian Range, lower Callovian to middle Oxfordian in age. It is a complex unit which contains irregular sedimentary levels and discontinuities associated with stratigraphic gaps. Five facies types with ferruginous ooids are described and interpreted, on the base of a preliminary study of carbonate cements and Fe oolite features. The ooids were deposited in a shallow marine subtidal environment. Facies and cement analysis show that the Arroyofrio Bed was not emerged during a long period of time.
