Stromatolites are common in the pelagic condensed levels o f the Mesozoic realms. These stromatolites are traditionally known as pelagic stromatolites. They show a characteristic morphology and are commonly associated with phosphate and iron authigenic minerals. The stromatolites, located in the lower to middle Oxfordian condensed levels at the Northern Iberian Range, consist o f m il I ¡metric to centimetric irregular laminae. Sometimes these stromatolites are observed in cavities, endoestromatolite morphology. The stromatolites are associated with pelagic bioclastic facies and ferruginous oolite facies. Laminated stromatolite bands alternate whit micritic pelagic sediments. The stromatolite laminae have four morphological types that are frequently associated in a vertical succession.
