    El presente artículo aborda la presencia de esclavos negros y afromestizos en el Monasterio Antiguo de Santa Clara durante el siglo XVIII. Específicamente estudia la posición de estos sujetos en la jerarquía social del claustro, sus formas de ingreso, tipos de trabajos realizados, manumisiones y representaciones culturales. Asimismo, se analizan las dificultades que implicaba su vida cotidiana en relación a las normas de esta orden religiosa, contrastándolas con los beneficios que significaba su incorporación al convento: para las monjas y para ellos mismos.

    This article deals with the presence of black and afromestizo slaves in the Old Monastery of Santa Clara during the 18th century. Specifically, it studies the position of these subjects in the social hierarchy of the cloister, their forms of income, types of work performed, manumissions and cultural representations. Likewise we analyze the difficulties that their daily life implied in relation to the rules of this religious order, contrasting them to the benefits that their incorporation to the convent meant: for the nuns and for themselves.
