    Patrick Modiano, uprooted writer, seeks to rebuild a family tree in and through literature. The presence of the plant in his work is thus often the sign of this research, in a paradoxical alternation between an aesthetics of ruin or destruction, which also evokes the horror of the Holocaust, and a burst of germination and vitalism. We will try to identify the different issues of plant presence in the work of Modiano, strongly tied to his existential and aesthetical reflection.

    Patrick Modiano, écrivain déraciné, cherche à se reconstruire un arbre généalogique dans et par la littérature. La présence du végétal dans son œuvre se fait ainsi souvent le signe de cette recherche, dans une alternance paradoxale entre une esthétique de la ruine ou de la destruction, qui n’est pas sans évoquer l’horreur de la Shoah, et un élan germinatif et vitaliste. Nous essayerons donc de cerner les différents enjeux de la présence végétale dans l’œuvre de Modiano, fortement noués à sa réflexion existentielle et esthétique.
