Resumen de “Um operoso e erudito estudioso da história de nossa pátria": Raphael Galanti e o ensino de História do Brasil (1896-1917)

  Este artigo tem como escopo as questões atinentes ao ensino e à escrita da história escolar na concepçãodo jesuíta italiano Raphael Galanti (1840-1917). Com a emergência do governo republicanono Brasil, o ensino de história passou por importan-tes transformações, como a inclusão de novos heróis, a recuperação de um passado com conotação democrática e o fortalecimento da defesa dos valores morais e patrióticos, já elucidada nas obras publicadas ao longo da segunda metade do século XIX. No caso do padre Raphael Galanti, a sua concepção acerca da história do Brasil pode ser compreen-dida por meio de seus livros escolares, como também por meio dos discursos publicados na Revista do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro no descerrar do oitocentos. Neste sentido, o ensino de história proposto por Galanti expressava uma preocupação vigente na historiografia escolar da época no processo de edificação da memória repu-blicana respaldada na mitificação de novos heróis.

  This article has as its scope the questions concerning the teaching and writing of school history in the conception ofthe Italian Jesuit Raphael Galanti (1840-1917). With the emergence of the republican governmentin Brazil, the teaching of history un-derwent important transformations, such as the inclusion of new heroes, the recovery of a past with democratic connotation and the strengthening of the defense of moral and patriotic values, already elucidated in the works published throughout the second half of the nineteenth century. Inthe case ofFather Raphael Galanti, his conception of the his-tory of Brazil can be understood through his textbooks, as well as through the speeches published in the Journal of the Brazilian Historical and Geographic Institute in the cour-se of the eight hundred. In this sense, the teaching of history proposed by Galanti ex-pressed a current concern in the school historiography of the time in the process of buil-ding republican memory backed by the mythification of new heroes.
