    This article is about an engraving that was in all likelihood printed by Jean de Guerlins in Toulouse early in the 16th century. What it represents has been debated; one reading suggests it is the arrival of St Francis of Paola in France. Looking at the issue anew made us favour the hypothesis of a Franciscan preacher, friar Thomas Illyricus, who travelled the Toulouse region between 1518 and 1521.

    Imprimée selon toute vraisemblance par Jean de Guerlins à Toulouse au début du xvie siècle, cette estampe a suscité diverses interprétations : on y a vu notamment l’arrivée en France de saint François de Paule. Le réexamen du dossier permet d’orienter plutôt notre regard vers un prédicateur franciscain, frère Thomas Illyricus, qui parcourut le Midi toulousain vers 1518-1521.
