    ¿La franja fronteriza norte posee características demográficas que la distinguen del resto del país? El primer problema que se plantea es definir lo que se va a considerar como zona fronteriza y, en seguida, encontrar los datos relativos al fenómeno que se desea estudiar para las unidades territoriales seleccionadas.Este artículo se circunscribe al análisis de algunas características de la nupcialidad en los municipios fronterizos del norte a partir de las clasificaciones de la población por edad y sexo y por estado civil y sexo que contiene el Censo de 1980. Un breve análisis de la población por municipio y tamaño de localidad permite constatar su concentración en unas cuantas áreas urbanas. Por su parte, la comparación de los efectivos de hombres y mujeres en edades casaderas, a través de índices de masculinidad y de relaciones de femineidad, muestra el excedente de mujeres que existe en estas edades.La distribución de la población de 12 años y más por estado civil sin distinción de edad limita mucho los indicadores posibles de estimar; sin embargo, es posible concluir que la proporción de solteros es mayor que en el resto del país así como la correspondiente a las personas en matrimonio civil y en uniones interrumpidas (mujeres).La nupcialidad fronteriza no solamente se distingue con respecto al país en su conjunto, sino también en relación con los estados a los cuales pertenecen los municipios que la conforman.

    Doe the northern border zone of Mexico have demographic characteristic distinguishing if from the rest of the country? The first problem posed is to define what is to be considered as the border zone and then, to find data related to the phenomenon to be studied in selected territorial units.This article is limited to an analysis of some characteristics of nuptiality in the municipalities in the northern border zone of Mexico, based on the classification of the population by age and sex by marital status and sex contained in the 1980 Census. A brief analysis of the population by municipality and size of locality allows us to observe that these are concentrated in only a few urban areas. In addition, a comparison of the actual numbers of men and women of marriageable age through indices of masculinity and relations of feminity, shows the surplus of women existing in this age group.The distribution of the population aged 12 and over according to their marital status, with no age distinctions made, greatly limits the possible indicators for estimation: nevertheless, it is possible to conclude that the proportion of single people is greater than in the rest of the country, as well as thet of individuals in civil marriages and interrupted union (women).Nuptiality in the border zone is not only distinguished from that of the country as a whole, but also in relation to the states in which the municipalities comprising it are located.
