  • Resumen
    • The epoch of Catalonia's historical richness, when it figured as a nation-state, lasted for more or less 150 years following the start of the 13th century. We enquire as to the state of development of Catalan liturgy at that time. The result of this study indicates that the fullness of Catalan liturgy occurred two centuries earlier. Catalonia enjoys a richness of material for investigation. The liturgical manuscripts which have been preserved offer us a wide range of the main liturgical books: sacramentarian, pontifical, Communion and Prayer books, antiphonal, missals, rules, etc. An analysis of the content of these liturgical books allows us to point out the outstanding characteristics of Catalan Liturgy during the epoch studied. The main conclusions are: It shows the characteristics of Roman-French liturgy which was adopted in Catalonia following the French invasion. This liturgy is the same as that of the Suffragan Dioceses of Narbonne (to which capital the Catalonian Dioceses belonged), but with their own originalities both of the liturgy and of the most popular elements of liturgical inspiration. It is in the forms of the Lives of the Saints where creative originality is most abundant. This liturgy preserves some features of the earlier Hispanic Liturgy.
