Materialistas y espiritualistas hablan de diferentes conciencias. Su idea básica: nuestra especie, como el resto de las especies de seres vivos, tiene el imperativo vital de supervivir. La otra idea es que el altruismo amplio ha sido, y es, el elemento más eficaz y eficiente para intentar cumplir este objetivo. Tanto el imperativo vital como el altruismo/amor amplio están implícitos en todas las conciencias. Y han sido el fundamento de las normas éticas desarrolladas por nuestra especie. Es importante y urgente explicitarlos, asumirlos y difundirlos.
