Resumen de A safe and persuasive vaccine. Ethical-narrative consideration in public health

Paolo M. Cattorini

  • The meaning of ancient words (hygiene, public health, welfare, community medicine) has become confused, vague and even contradictory in our contemporary pluralistic arena. With the decli- ne of paternalism, a new dialogue between biomedicine and hu- manities is required, as the very notion of medicine is undergoing a difficult crisis. In this article two recent movies are presented examined and commented upon, portraying the psychological concerns and ethical dilemmas of the agents involved (both pro- fessionals and lay people). The author shows how ethical aware- ness might be incremented, for the sake of rationally justifying the aims, methods and criteria of a shared decision within the com- munity about delicate issues in public health. In particular, the na- rrative can help us to make sound and just social and medical choices, thus, it is considered, and elaborated correctly and with competence.
