While global efforts in sustainability have only recently become somewhat mainstream in the chemistry enterprises, a John C. Warner born in 1897 dedicated a significant amount of his efforts as president of Carnegie Mellon University, and president of the American Chemical Society, to underscore the need to adapt education curricula to help teach the moral and ethical responsibilities of professional chemists. The field of green chemistry, some 70 years later, is finally helping to bring his vision to reality.
