Resumen de Ética y formación en valores: Desafíos para la educación superior del Paraguay

El abordaje de este tema parte de la corrupción, una realidad que está arraigada en todo el tejido de la nación paraguaya. Se dilucida en este artículo, por un lado, el sentido etimológico de la corrupción y algunas de sus acepciones, y, por otro lado, muestra, por lo menos, cinco características de sus manifestaciones concretas. Hecha esta lectura sobre la patente realidad de la corrupción en nuestro país se analiza el fin de la educación paraguaya a los efectos de exponer un desafío al subsistema de Educación Superior; pues tal desafío radica en la ética y formación en valores. La cuestión fundamental que se presenta a la Educación Superior, es la formación integral del hombre. La Educación Superior en general se aboca a formar a los jóvenes profesionalmente y descuida las otras dimensiones fundamentales del hombre. Si la Educación Superior no fomenta la formación integral del hombre, entonces está en falta consigo misma, puesto que solamente hace hincapié en la formación profesional. De ahí la necesidad que tiene la Universidad o Educación Superior para volver a hurgar en las profundidades de las ciencias humanas, que proporcionaría a la nación inteligibilidad, actitud crítica, promoción de la moralidad y la ética. De este modo se puede intentar revestir la vil condición de la cultura corrupta, en la cual nos encontramos; pues la educación es la única vía para revivir los grandes ideales de los hombres y despertar la inquietud de buscar responsablemente el sentido de la existencia. Es urgente replantear los principios más nobles de la moralidad y promover una permanente actitud reflexiva, la cual podría dar un horizonte diferente a nuestra nación.

In addressing this topic, corruption must be taken into account, a socialreality that is deeply woven into the fabric of the Paraguayan nation. This article attempts to elucidate, on the one hand, the etymological sense of corruption and some of its meanings, and on the other, at least five features of its concrete manifestations. Upon this understanding of the self-evident reality of corruption in our country, the purpose of the Paraguayan Education can be analyzed in order to expose the challenges to the subsystem of Higher Education, challenges which lie in the education of ethics and values. The fundamental issue which presents itself to Higher Education is the holistic education of the individual. In General, Higher Education rests upon the professional training of young people and neglects the other fundamental dimensions of man. If Higher Education does not promote the Holistic education of the individual, then it is deficient in and of itself, since it only emphasizes professional training. Hence the need of the University and Higher Education in general to rummage through the depths of the humanities, which would provide the nation with intelligibility, critical thinking, and the promotion morality and ethics. Thus, the intent can be made to recover the vile condition of a corrupt culture, like that in which we now find ourselves, since education is the only means to revive the great ideals of men and wake the restless and responsible quest for the meaning of existence. It is urgent to replant the noblest principles of morality and promote a permanently reflective attitude, which could give our nation an entirely different horizon.
