Resumen de Serviceability Considerations for the Layout of Coiled Tubing Units

Valentina Rotundo, Jonathan S. Colton

  • This paper presents a design method to evaluate the serviceability of mechanical designs. This method allows designers to evaluate the serviceability of complex systems during the early stages of the design process. The development of the method was motivated by the need for a tool that considers serviceability issues related to the layout problem in a three-dimensional environment. The method requires the designer to specify a complete and appropriate list of components and their required service operations. It then evaluates the total service cost for different candidate assembly designs based on the tools required to perform the service operations, their frequency, the time required to perform them, and the access needed based on human factors and spaces needed for tools. The general method was developed using Coiled Tubing Units (equipment used by oil-well services companies) as a case study.
