Actuación del Athletic Club en la temporada 1938-1939

    A modo de continuación del artículo Actividad futbolística en Bizkaia durante el periodo comprendido entre el Alzamiento Nacional (18-07-36) y la caída de Bilbao (19-06-37), publicado en el nº 111 de la revista Cuadernos de Fútbol editada por el Centro de Investigaciones de Historia y Estadística del Fútbol Español-CIHEFE (miembro de la IFFHS-International Federation of Football History and Statistics, institución de prestigio internacional reconocida por la FIFA), me ha parecido interesante rememorar la actuación en la temporada 1938-1939 (sin haber terminado la Guerra Civil) del club bilbaíno por antonomasia, temporada ésta que comenzó con los correspondientes campeonatos regionales y finalizó con la Copa o Torneo del Generalísimo del año 1939. Y, por último, a modo de reconocimiento personal y epílogo, quiero rescatar y reescribir palabra por palabra un magnífico texto extraido del libro titulado Historias y anécdotas en torno al banquillo y redactado por José Ignacio Corcuera[*], autor serio, cabal e incansable investigador e historiador del Fútbol español, texto que nos traslada en directo y en breves pinceladas al fútbol posbélico.

    Continuing with the article titled “Football activity in Bizkaia during the period between the National Uprising (18-07-36) and the fall of Bilbao (19-06-37)”, published in No. 111 of the Cuadernos de Fútbol magazine, edited by the Spanish Football History and Statistics Research Center-CIHEFE (a member of the IFFHS-International Federation of Football History and Statistics, an institution of international prestige recognized by FIFA), I found it interesting to recall Bilbao’s club performance in the season of 1938-1939 (with the civil war still active). Such season began with the corresponding regional championships and ended with the Cup or Tournament of the Generalissimo of 1939. Also, as a personal recognition and epilogue, I would like to rescue and rewrite word by word a magnificent text extracted from the book entitled Stories and anecdotes around the bench, written by José Ignacio Corcuera[*]; a serious author, thorough and tireless researcher, and a historian of the Spanish football whose text takes us live and in fine-tunes to the postwar football.
