The Memorial Literario (1784–1808) was one of the most distinguished newspapers of the eighteenth century in Spain. It played an important role in the dissemination of Enlightenment culture for a quarter of a century. This work of promulgation also reached the Political Economy. Through different formats such as articles, letters, translations and reviews, this newspaper was a pioneer of eighteenth century Spain in the regular introduction of information about the referred discipline. An in-depth analysis of its subject matter shows that the strategy of introducing content on Political Economy was not guided by an exclusionary doctrinal criterion but with the purpose of publicizing and defending the reforms programme that the Bourbon governments had been implementing since the 1760s.
