Conflictos de jurisdicción, disputa de una devoción. La llegada de los oratorianos de San Felipe Neri a la villa de San Miguel el Grande, 1712-1742

    Resumen El presente artículo muestra el conflicto que hubo con el arribo de la congregación del Oratorio de San Felipe Neri a San Miguel el Grande, con la cofradía de los mulatos y el cura párroco de la localidad. La disputa se dio en varios escenarios, pues los filipenses llegaron a invadir la iglesia de la cofradía, por lo que la cohabitación en este espacio religioso trajo problemas de potestades y de beneficios económicos entre ambas partes. Otro desacuerdo fue con el cura, pues éste se manifestó en contra de la independencia de la iglesia de los oratorianos, quienes deseaban dejar de ser ayuda de parroquia. El último enfrentamiento fue por el control de la devoción del Ecce Homo, que le pertenecía a la cofradía, y en el cual los filipenses, mediante sus discursos, trataron de desprestigiar a los mulatos. En esta historia, los tres actores mostraron sus intereses, y se dio un reacomodo de pactos que buscaba armonizar a las partes. Lo cierto es que la llegada de los filipenses vino a cambiar la vida religiosa y cultural de la villa en el siglo XVIII.

    Abstract This article shows the conflict that occurred with the arrival of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri in San Miguel el Grande, with the brotherhood of the mulattoes and the parish priest of the town. The dispute took place in several stages, as the Philippians came to invade the church of the brotherhood, so that cohabitation of this religious space powers and problems brought economic benefits to both sides. Another disagreement was with the priest, as it was against the independence of the church of the Oratorians, who wanted to stop being parish help. The latest fighting was for control of the devotion of Ecce Homo, which belonged to the brotherhood, and in which the Philippians through their speeches tried to discredit the mulattos. In this story, the three actors show their interests, and a realignment of pacts that sought to harmonize the parties is given, the truth is that the arrival of the Philippians came to change the religious and cultural life of the town in the 18th Century.
