Pau Obradors, el 1830, bastí el gran instrument de la basílica. La seva obra serà conti nuada, en el temps, pel mallorquí Joan Puig i per Miquel Bertran. L’arribada d’un nou di rector de l’Escolania, el pare Guzmán, propicià l’establiment d’un nou instrument a l’es glésia, el d’Eusebi Nicolau, el 1890. L’activitat musical, després de les festes de la celebració del mil·lenari del trobament de la Sagrada Imatge, motivà l’establiment d’un nou orgue, el 1896, encarregat a Aquilino Amezua. L’establiment a Collbató de l’orguener Silvio Puggina donà un nou orgue als escolans, el 1922. El de Nicolau passà a la Sala d’Assaig dels petits cantors. L’avançament de la reforma propugnada pel Concili II del Vaticà motivà, el 1958, l’establiment de l’orgue d’Amezua com a orgue de cor en el cor inferior i únic instrument de la basílica. Fou reformat i ampliat per Rafael Puignau, d’OESA, que li va donar una tímbrica neoclàssica. Després de reparacions successives (1968 i 1992), es retirà definitiva ment el 2009. També cal esmentar els dos instruments de Gabriel Blancafort, a la capella del cambril (1969) i a l’oratori de Sant Fructuós (1970).

Pau Obradors built the great organ of the basilica of Montserrat in 1830. His work would be continued in time by the Majorcan Joan Puig and by Miquel Bertran. The arrival of a new director of the monastery’s music school, Father Guzmán, led to installation of a new organ by Eusebi Nicolau in the church in 1890. Subsequently, the musical activity after the celebration of the millennial of the finding of the holy image of Our Lady of Montserrat prompted a new organ commissioned to Aquilino Amezua to be installed in 1896. After that, the establishment of the organmaker Silvio Puggina in the town of Collbató led to the acquisition of a new organ for the choirboys in 1922 and Nicolau’s organ was transferred to the rehearsal room of the boys’ choir. The advance of the reform pro posed by the Second Vatican Council caused Amezua’s organ, the only one in the basilica, to be installed as the choir organ in the Lower Choir. It was reformed and enlarged by Rafael Puignau of OESA, giving it a neoclassical timbre. Following successive repairs in 1968 and 1992, this instrument was permanently removed in 2009. Mention should also be made of the two organs by Gabriel Blancafort, one in the Throne’s Chapel (1969) and the other in the oratory of Saint Fructuosus (1970).
