Resumen de Retos y oportunidades para una gestión eficiente de los servicios de agua potable, saneamiento y electricidad en la República Dominicana

Los servicios de agua potable, saneamiento y electricidad son indispensables para la mejora de la salud humana, la reducción de la pobreza y la exclusión social, el bienestar, laalimentación, el crecimiento y desarrollo económico, entre otros. Así, la equidad, eficiencia y sostenibilidad en el acceso a ambos servicios son un requisito previo para el desarrollo sostenible y la consecución de cada uno de estos objetivos. El estudiodesarrollado sobre la prestación de los servicios de agua potable, saneamiento y electricidad tiene como objetivo identificar y describir variables que afectan una provisión eficiente y proponer una línea de investigación y trabajo sobre estas mismas. Para ello, se ha descrito el estado de la gestión y prestación mediante una sistematización de datos técnicos e información actualizada; también, se han caracterizado los factores relevantes en las dimensiones político-institucionales, económicas y sociales que, más allá del tradicional enfoque técnico, afectan la prestación eficiente de estos servicios en el país. Los resultados muestran que existen una serie de variables en lo político-institucional, económico y social que afectan la calidad de estos servicios.

Water supply, sanitation, and electricity services are necessary for improving human healthy, poverty reduction, inequality, well-being, feeding, economic growthand development, among others. So, the equity, efficiency, and sustainability for accessing to these services are a previous requirement for the sustainable development and the achievement of each objective. The study developed on the provision of drinking water, sanitation, and electricity aims to identify and describe the variables that affect efficient provision and propose a line of research about it. To this end, it has been described the situation of the management and provision of these services by a systematization of technical and actual information; also, the relevant factors in the political and institutional, economic, and social dimensions have been characterized beyond the traditional technical focus, affecting the efficient provision of theseservices. The results show that there are series of variables in the political-institutional, economic, and social grounds that affect the quality of these services.
