  • The paper reports an investigation into decision-making in new product design and development, with particular attention to the allocation of resources to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency of the development process. The operating characteristics of various design management tools are analyzed in the light of the needs of manufacturers to meet market requirements for performance and quality. The scope and diversity of the knowledge base required for successful product development is emphasized.
