Resumen de La Talla Baja desde la Biblia hasta hoy día

Los individuos con «Baja Talla Severa» (BTS), término preferible al discriminatorio «Enanismo», han sido objeto durante la Historia de discriminaciones sociales, profesionales, etc. Desde la Biblia, especialmente en la Edad Media y posteriormente, obras de escritores mundialmente reconocidos y de pintores famosos muestran pruebas ostentosas, banales, de poderío y riqueza de quienes presumían «poseer» uno o varios seres con BTS.
Los progresos en el diagnóstico y tratamiento, exitosos en muchos casos de BTS, unidos al cambio social, han permitido que estos seres, «diferentes», tan humanos como los demás y capaces de ejercer profesiones antes vetadas, hayan logrado dejar de ser objeto de burla, discriminación o injusticia social. Ahora ya no tienen la necesidad de exhibir su pequeñez, como anteriormente, para subsistir e incluso hacerse ricos.
A este positivo discurrir de lo que conllevaba presentar una BTS en el pasado, hemos contribuido mucho los Pediatras y todo el Mundo Sanitario relacionado con el tema. Con nuestra dedicación, el conocimiento de los mecanismos causales del pobre crecimiento y de su tratamiento en muchos casos, y, sobre todo, con nuestro cariño y comprensión hacia esos niños y sus familias, hemos conseguido una infancia y adolescencia lo más felices posible. Así lo comprobamos cuando nos encontramos a una persona adulta que nos saluda cariñosamente y nos recuerda con ilusión los años que pasó con nosotros, independientemente de su Talla Adulta alcanzada, no siempre la pronosticada.
Entre todos, y, ellos los primeros, vencimos a la BTS y ellos no lo olvidan.

Individuals with Severe Short Stature (SSS) have been objected during the history of social, profesional discriminations. The Bible, especially in the middle ages and later, works by world-renowed writers and famous painters show ostentatious, banal proofs of power and wealth of those who boasted of “possessing” one or mor beings with SSS.
The progress in the diagnosis and treatment, successful in many cases of SSS, together with social change, have allowed these different beings, as humans as others and capable of exercising previously vetoed professions, have manageg to stop being the object of mockery, discrimination or social injustice. Now, they no longer have the need to exhibit their smallness, like before, to subsist and even get rich.
A lot of pediatrician have contributed to this positive understanding of what it entailed to present a SSS in the past. With our education, knowledge of the causal mechanisms of poor growth and its treatment in many cases, and, above all, with our love and understanding to these children and their families, we have achieved the happiest childhood and adolescence, This is what we see when we meet an adult person who greets us affectionately and reminds us with enthusiasm the years he spent with us,regardless of their reached adult size, nor always the predicted one.
Among all of them, and they were the first, we beat the SSS and they don’t forget it.
