    Las infecciones urinarias (bacteriuria asintomática, cistitis y pielonefritis aguda) son las complicaciones más frecuentes durante el embarazo. Se presentan debido a los cambios anatomo-fisiológicos que presentan las mujeres gestantes. Es de gran importancia su diagnóstico y manejo temprano para evitar las posibles secuelas materno-fetales que pueden producirse. Su diagnóstico se hace con la identificación de un patógeno mediante un urocultivo, y el microorganismo hallado con mayor frecuencia es la Escherichia coli. La terapia se realiza con cobertura antibiótica y el manejo puede ser ambulatorio o intrahospitalario según el caso.

    Urinary tract infections (asymptomatic bacteriuria, cystitis, acute pyelonephritis) are the most common complications during pregnancy. They are caused by anatomic and physiologic changes that occur during this time period. It is of utmost importance to make an early diagnosis and management because of the possible maternal and fetal consequences. The diagnosis is made by identifying a pathogen in a urine culture; the most frequently found is Escherichia coli. Therapy is with empiric and specific antibiotic treatment and the management may be ambulatory or in-patient, depending on the type and severity of the infection.
