Se analiza el origen y la evolución de los negocios de la familia Alvear en Montilla (Córdoba-España), ejemplo de burguesía agraria emprendedora. Se detalla la evolución de una empresa activa que es hoy la más longeva de Andalucía y la cuarta de España. Estudiamos las cuatro primeras generaciones de la familia desde que inicia sus actividades en 1729, en pleno Antiguo Régimen, hasta inicios del siglo XX. Se pretende profundizar en el conocimiento de las estrategias de inversión, las mejoras que aplicaron a sus actividades, las razones de supervivencia y enriquecimiento de esta familia burguesa, una élite local imitada por la agroindustria de la comarca. Se utilizan como fuentes padrones fiscales, protocolos notariales y archivos privados.
This paper analyzes the origin and evolution of the Alvear family's business in Montilla (Córdoba-Spain), an example of an entrepreneurial agrarian bourgeoisie. Evidence is provided of the family and patrimonial evolution of a company that is currently the oldest in Andalusia and the fourth of the long-lived companies in Spain. The research studies the first four generations of the family since it began its activities in Montilla in 1729, in the Ancient Regime, until the beginning of the 20th century. The aim is to deepen the knowledge of investment strategies, the improvements they applied to their activities, the reasons for survival and enrichment of this bourgeois family that becomes a local elite imitated by the agro-industry of the region.
