In the last few years it has been proposed a paradigm shift in organizational sciences which includes a change from self-centeredness to interconnectedness. This new paradigm suggests the need for a more humanistic perspective for management and the importance of altruistic behaviors to promote organizational functioning. Based on this approach, in this study we aim to explore the consequences of altruism in organizations on firm performance, using organizational resilience as a mediating variable. To this aim we apply structural equation modelling in a sample of 300 high innovative companies from different sectors. The results confirm that altruism increases the performance of the company through the mediating role of organizational resilience. This study takes a step forward in organizational literature by unveiling some benefits of promoting altruism in organizations.
