Beginning with a social and cultural analysis of the development of audience preferences, this article discusses changes in the television viewing habits of Spanish audiences in the 1990s. In recent years, the previously broad model of television in Spain has been radically transformed, and with it, programming and production practices for the medium. In this respect, recent changes in Spanish society afford us an interesting platform from which to reflect on and understand abstract changes in dominant trends of television consumption.
