  • Resumen
    • Deception Island is a natural laboratory for morpho-tectonic and morpho-volcanic studies due to the existence of landforms completely preserved from human activity and abundant cartographic information pre and after volcanic eruptive events. The comparison of the aerial photography of 1969 with the 2003 Quickbird image, as well as the recognitions of field evidences, allowed us to identify new landforms and structures formed during the eruptive period of 1970 in the NE Post Foster bay: -1) Craters of phreatomagmatic explosions; -2) Fractures and faults formed during the eruptive process; -3) Erosive marine terraces; -4) deflections of the fluvial network. The volcanic sequence of 1970 would be coherent with a process of shallow magmatic injection controlled by active faults that interacts with superficial waters with the consequence of phreatomagmatic activity.
