  • Resumen
    • This article has been written following the recent reappearance of the manuscript “Hilandar Metaphrast °2”, a 14th-century Serbian translation of a Metaphrastic menologion, written on Mount Athos. The manuscript is considered to be the second part of the September menologion, the fi rst part of which is preserved in manuscript ZIIIb20, kept at the Zagreb Academy of Sciences, also known as the “Hilandar Metaphrast.” The manuscript is unique in that it preserves only sui generis translations of Metaphrastic versions of saints’ lives and martyr acts, one of which is the Martyr act of St. Thecla (24th of September). This article explores the Metaphrastic reception of St. Thecla in the Greek and the Slavonic tradition and, more specifi cally, this highly underresearched 14th-century Slavonic manuscript. This exploration in the Greek original texts happens on a literary and rhetorical basis, while the analysis of the Slavonic translation focuses on the linguistic and literary characteristics of the text and its translation poetics in relation to the Greek original.
