In a passage of Festus epitomated by Paulus Diaconus is stated that mensae could replace arae inside the aedes. Some indications from literary sources allow us to try to reconstruct the juridical-sacral prescriptions for the dedication and the use of the mensae sacrae during sacrificial ceremonies. Furthermore, other elements can be considered to deepen the relationship between these sacred objects and the pulvinaria, namely the lectuli, used during the lectisternia.

Un passo di Festo epitomato da Paolo Diacono afferma che le mensae potevano sostituire le arae all’interno delle aedes. Grazie ad alcuni indizi rintracciabili nelle fonti letterarie e possibile cercare di ricostruire le norme giuridico-sacrali che ne regolavano la dedica e l’utilizzo durante le cerimonie sacrificali. Ulteriori elementi permettono inoltre di approfondire il rapporto tra questi arredi sacri e i pulvinaria ossia i lectuli usati durante i lectisternia.
