La imposibilidad pragmática de relativizar el relativismo global

    En su libro Fear of Knowledge, P. Boghossian rechaza un relativismo global sobre los hechos como una posición incoherente. Pero él no está de acuerdo con el argumento tradicional aducido en defensa de esta objeción tradicional. No se sigue de la concesión de que el relativismo sea él mismo verdadero solo en relación a una teoría, que es meramente una afirmación arbitraria. Este artículo trata de probar que un recurso a la racionalidad de relativizar el relativismo global es contraproducente. Incluso suponiendo que el relativismo global fuese la cosa más racional que creer, la aserción relativista no sería paradójicamente un acto racional a causa de la naturaleza racional de la creencia y la naturaleza racional de la aserción. De hecho, la paradoja de la racionalidad para el relativista es tener que realizar una aserción falsa, so pena de no realizar ninguna aserción en absoluto.

    In his book Fear of Knowledge, P. Boghossian rejects a global relativism about facts as an incoherent position. But he does not agree with the traditional argument by which this traditional objection is defended. It does not follow from the concession that relativism is itself to be true only relative to a theory, that it is just an arbitrary claim. This paper tries to prove that an appeal to the rationality of relativizing the global relativism is self-defeating. Even if global relativism was supposed to be the most rational thing to believe, the relativist assertion would be not paradoxically a rational act according to the rational nature of belief and the rational nature of assertion. In fact, the paradox of rationality for the relativist is to have to make a false assertion, on pain of not making an assertion at all.
