    Para Eriúgena el cuerpo ocupa el último peldaño de la jerarquía ontológica por ser consecuencia del pecado original. Existen algunos pasajes del Periphyseon que permiten pensar en la carne no únicamente como un castigo, sino también como una herramienta que el hombre puede y debe utilizar a fin de lograr una contemplación de Dios en el momento del reditus. Para mostrar esto se indaga primero sobre el estatuto de la materia en el sistema eriugeniano, después se examina la creación del cuerpo y su relación con el alma, para mostrar finalmente qué papel podría jugar en el momento del retorno a la divinidad

    For Eriugena, the body occupies the last step of the ontological hierarchy, because it is consequence of the original sin. Nevertheless, there are some places of the Periphyseon that allow to think in the body not only as a punishment, but as a tool that man can use in order to reach a contemplation of God at the moment of the reditus. In this article I will try to show the status of matter within the system, and the creation of the body and its relationship with the soul, to finally show what could be the body’s role at the moment of the turn to divinity.
