El autor desarrolla el vigente status quo del mercado de divisas, desde sus orígenes históricos, con monedas de gran valor intrínseco acuñadas en oro y plata, hasta la actual concepción enteramente fiduciaria. El texto se subdivide en varios apartados que permiten seguir el desarrollo del mercado, sus crisis y la vinculación de éstas con conflictos a gran escala como las guerras mundiales. Finalmente disecciona los intereses geopolíticos que llevaron a la concepción del sistema financiero tal y como es hoy en día, evaluando la situación de la crisis financiera existente en la actualidad y sus posibles causas e implicaciones para la Política Común de Seguridad y Defensa.

The text advances step by step towards the present status quo of the FOREX, posing the connection between financial crisis in the past and conflicts of the time. Finally, the exploration of the current monetary and financial crisis and its probable causes, leads to the big efforts made by the EU and USA governments trying to prevent the transmission of the financial instability into different spheres of the system and the consequences to the Common Security and Defense Policy.
