This article is a reflection on the connections between the symbolic and the factual, the social, and the economic in relation to communication, information, and culture, the big industries of the production of symbolic discourse. The revolution that takes place in these industries, with their megafusions and concentrations, has displaced traditional industries. This new panorama of the media influences directly the content of the information in those graphic and audiovisual products that have a globalized distribution. At the same time the symbolic production grows because of globalization. We can‘t advance in the analysis of contemporary societies without taking account ofthe new intercultural and economic agenda that the media is developing.
