En momentos de crisis y dificultades, los monasterios benedictinos castellanos emplearon múltiples recursos para construir un relato sobre su propia historia que justificase su importancia dentro de la sociedad en la que se encuadraban. Nuestro objetivo será definir la imagen del rey García Sánchez III que se dibujó a través de la producción hagiográfica de los monasterios de San Millán de la Cogolla y Santo Domingo de Silos, a simple vista muy negativa, con el fin de conocer las motivaciones de sus autores y los elementos del retrato del rey que han pervivido hasta nuestros días.

In times of crisis and difficulties, Castilian Benedictine monasteries used multiple resources to construct a narrative about their own history that justified their importance within the society of which they formed part. Our objective will be to define the image of King García Sánchez III that was drawn through the hagiographic works produced at the monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla and Santo Domingo de Silos, at first glance very negative, in order to appreciate the motivation of their authors and the elements of the portrait of the king that have survived to the present day.
