Resumen de El discurso de las campañas electorales en televisión: la efervescencia sígnica

Teresa Velázquez García-Talavera

  • The most significant manifestation of a democratic system in the contemporary society is the electoral processes which reflect the dynamics of political life. On the other hand mass communication, as social discourse, echoes, highlights and gives a hierarchical value to these processes. We must add that potential electorate participates in the same processes, and this factor is very important for the political activity during the electoral phase. So is created discourse about political activity of politicians and parties, and also the mass media discourse on politics. In these pages we will expose the partial results of our analysis about the way television news deals with general elections in Spain in the year 2000. And we will see through semiotic-discursive categories the way narrative and discursive forms are structured in the propagandist discourse contained in the spots of the electoral campaign elaborated by political parties and broadcast in the air time allocated to the political parties by Spanish public television.
