This work presents a novel method to determine Arctic Sea ice concentration with radiometric measurements obtained by ESA SMOS satellite, that was launched on 2009. This satellite carries a passive radiometer working at low microwave frequency, 1.4GHz (L-band), which presents some advantages with respect higher frequency radiometers. A Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) is used to retrieve sea ice concentration. Results have been compared with sea ice concentration from OSISAF dataset, which is based on state-of-the-art algorithms and higher frequency radiometric data.
